Florida: The State Of Our State

Florida's Chief Executive Orifice Scott and Florida's legislative leaders will open the annual legislative session today and lay out a bare bones agenda. Said Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolis, "We're all in survival mode. We've been in survival mode for about five sessions in a row. We're just trying to get through this very difficult patch."

House Speaker Dean Cannon said that with yearly budget cuts, "there's almost a fatigue factor,'' that is now going to impair the lawmakers ability to do the job they were elected to do. Or, to put it another way, they are just too pooped to pop, so don't expect much from them. Maybe during the next session, but not right now.

Working to fix the worst economic crisis Florida has faced in over ten years, addressing the issue of 926,000 unemployed Floridians, 60,000 homeless adults and 50,000 homeless children, the nation's second highest foreclosure rate, and the nation's third highest number of people and fourth highest number of children who have no health insurance - well, our Republican dominated legislature is just too tired to deal with these hardly worth mentioning little problems.

Karen Woodall, of the Florida Center for Fiscal and Economic Policy, recently stated that there will be bills to address many of these issues, but these bills are proposed by Democrats, and they comprise a minority so small in each chamber that they can barely stop even a procedural vote.

Today the carpetbagger who bought Florida will give his state of the state address. If you bother tuning in, then compare Scott's remarks to this report on the state of our state.

Floridians who have an ounce of caring for anybody other than themselves need to keep this day in mind come the 2012 elections. For the sake of our state, don't you be too tired to vote!
