Florida’s Voter Suppression Act

The elections bill passed by extremists in the Florida Legislature and signed by [Florida CEO] Rick Scott in 2011 is a voter suppression trifecta, making it harder to register to vote, harder to cast a vote, and harder to have your vote counted. This threatens the fairness of elections, the very foundation of our democracy.

Fortunately, key leaders in the federal government, including our own Senator Bill Nelson, are taking voter suppression in Florida seriously. They’ve scheduled a U.S. Senate field hearing in Tampa this Friday. It’s important that we fill the room with concerned Floridians.

Please join Progress Florida in Tampa this Friday for the federal hearing on Florida’s Voter Suppression Act. Here are the details:

Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Human Rights
Hearing on Florida’s New Elections Law

Friday, January 27, 2012 @ 1:00 PM
Hillsborough County Courthouse
800 Twiggs Street
Tampa, FL 33602

If the courthouse docket isn't too full there may be on-street metered parking available. Otherwise, the Twiggs Street Parking Garage is almost catty cornered to the courthouse.

When entering the courthouse be prepared to remove your belt and anything in your pockets. These people at the door are serious about security. I wouldn't be too concerned about strip or body cavity searches. If you are that worrisome you will be turned away. I think.
