Hershey Squirt* Of The Week: Pam Bondi

The following text is courtesy of Progress Florida:

Republican Attorney General Pam Bondi has made her threat a reality. The State of Florida, led by Bondi, has joined a lawsuit to abolish the new requirement that health insurance companies provide coverage for birth control.

Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Davie) was spot on when she recently wrote: "Contraception is an important part of women's preventive health care. It not only prevents unwanted pregnancies, but also allows couples to limit family size, increase the interval between pregnancies, and reduces infant, child and maternal deaths in women whom, either because of age or health, should not become pregnant."

It’s unconscionable that Pam Bondi is playing politics with women’s health. As the Florida taxpayers funding this lawsuit, we say to Pam Bondi "Not in our name, not on our dime!"

Julie Hauserman with Progress Florida recently wrote, "Women's health shouldn't be a political football, but that's exactly how Gov. Rick Scott, extremists in the Florida Legislature, and now our Attorney General Pam Bondi are treating it. Bondi is actually threatening to sue over expanded birth control coverage established by the Obama Administration.

Pam Bondi is the only woman threatening to stand with eleven other extremist attorneys general in suing the Obama Administration over their rule requiring the coverage of birth control and contraception in employers' health plans. It's unconscionable that Florida taxpayer dollars would be used to fund Bondi's lawsuit to restrict access to birth control.

Rather than focusing on creating jobs, many Republican leaders are focusing on how to limit women's access to affordable health care.An incredible number of anti-choice, anti-women bills have been filed in the Legislature since Gov. Scott took office. Standing alongside our allies in the fight for reproductive freedom, Progress Florida has aggressively fought against these attacks, and won't let up now.

Pam Bondi's shameless attacks are only the tip of the iceberg. As we enter the final weeks of the legislative session, more extremist anti-choice bills are flying through legislative committees."
