Republican Attack On Florida Health Care

Ronald A. Hytoff, President and CEO of Tampa General Hospital, sent the following email to TGH employees. Since the actions of the Republican controlled Florida legislature affect not only Tampa General employees, but thousands of Tampa Bay residents, I am publishing that email in The SOG City Oracle.

"We are quickly running out of time to have our voices heard in Tallahassee. The House and Senate have released proposed budgets that are not as bad as the $77 million hit proposed by the governor. However, we still would lose about $14 million under the House budget proposal and almost $29 million under the Senate plan. These cuts would be devastating to our ability to maintain the level of care we are now providing – remember, we lost nearly $20 million during last year’s session and are feeling the impact. We need to let legislators know that health care in Florida and TGH cannot afford these cuts.

The FHA has developed sample emails that you can send very easily. Or you can write your own email. The important messages are that these cuts will impact everyone who needs the hospital, not just Medicaid patients. Any more cuts could result in longer wait times in the ER and delays in obtaining medical procedures. Staffing levels may have to be reduced throughout the hospital.

Everyone needs to get involved to maintain the vibrancy of our hospital!
