Just when you think Republican "Christian" conservative hypocrisy couldn't get any worse, Santorum (R - douche bag) steps up to the lectern and berates a mother with a sick child. Yes, the same Faith, Family and Freedom Santorum - the man of the froth with his own sick child.
If there is any justice in the great beyond, there has to be a very special kind of hell set aside for people like Santorum.
I am truly sickened at the pandering acts of Rick Santorum and Sarah Palin regarding their children of special needs. How could they exploit the children they profess to love? To supplant the Republican agenda on the back of of a special needs child takes a new amount of gall that sickens the soul. I am a parent of 15 years of an exceptional child that required therapy five days a week, for ten years. I fought for his every advancement since a mis-diagnosis of profound retardation. He was going to integrate a High School at 15. He died in his daddy's arms at ACH and his accomplishments were for naught. His birth was traumatic and the outcome was not good. I was told to abort our second child because of his birth. We chose not to abort and found a physician who promised a 95% cent chance of a "normal" child. Our lives were forever enriched with the love of Tyler and his exceptional qualities. I was his arms and legs and he was my heart. I will never support a politician who is unable to see beyon their PARTISAN narrow minded Christian (???) views that restrict a woman's right to choose what is best for themselves. I had every opportunity and reason to abort my second child because of the poor care from my first. There was no promise the outcome would be different. What was different was the level of medical care in the second birth? These decisions should be the right of the woman andn never ever the right of the government. Shame on the politicians who parade their religious beliefs on the backs of their children. One should always alway celebrate the child you are given. Rejoice in the learning and recognize the GRACE of a gift. Our son taught us more than any book, or Church, his life was a wonder and he changed all of us fundamentally to the core. His love was pure and his joy in life was supreme. To deny his existence as less powerful than an able bodied person makes me physically ill. Santorum deserves no respect, I abhor his pandering and am truly sorry that his dear child has become a trophy as Palin did with her child. What is wrong with these people? Do they not know how to love without a hidden agenda?
Jon, I appreciate your empathy. I am incapable of expressing the anguish we experienced as parents of a special child and the uncertainty of the prospect of another. I have been on both sides of the equation and it should always be the woman's choice. To be subjected to and forced to pay for an unnecessary ultrasound is ridiculous. And to suggest a child would wish to die because of illness, I think of Tyler, twelve surgeries, many of them beyond anguishing, 27 bouts of pneumonia, therapy beyond belief, and always with his winning smile and joy. His happiness was to be included and he loved people. I will forever be changed by the life of a child. Dear Tyler was bent backwards like a hairpin, following one surgery and the recovery room staff called me into the room to assist in his comfort. His heels were touching the back of his skull, he was in so much pain. All I could do was whisper, "Tyler Tyler Tyler, mommy is here" in his ear and let him crush my hand. I support the following bill in Va. http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/01/31/415393/virginia-democrat-adds-gender-equity-to-anti-abortion-bill-requires-rectal-exams-for-men-seeking-viagra/?mobile=nc
Thank you Jon. There has been no greater joy than the gifts I have been given and I am truly blessed. I will always be the advocate for the right of choice. Any legislation limiting that right is wrong.
